The Wine Recommendations

Cellers de Can Suriol
NV Azimut Cava

Where Penedès, Spain
Grape Macabeo, Xarel-lo, Parellada
Ag Organic
SO2 Conventional
Price$17
Both Jose Pastor and Jenny & François work with the Suriols at the forefront of serious cava. This particular cuvee for J&F is creamy, dry, nutty and refreshingly gentle. This might be your party bubbly for the season. Will work in a cocktail or straight up, shoved into the hands of your friends, with or without fancy giftwrap.

Bow & Arrow
2012 Gamay Noir

Where Portland, Oregon, United States
Grape Gamay
Ag Sustainable, dry farmed
SO2 Only after malo
Price$23
Dana and Scott Frank will make their mark as Oregon’s next wave, with fascinating takes on that state’s terroir. Everything from the 2012 vintage (Rhinestones, their pinot, for example) is terrific. But let’s talk gamay! This is from Walnut Ridge, semi-carbonic. Twenty percent whole clusters were placed on top of destemmed fruit, and presto chango, the resulting wine turned cherry, heightened with perfume and flavor.
