Terroir from the Head of Zeus
Audrey Binner in Kaefferkopf Grand Cru
Alsace’s vineyard ribbon squiggles 105 miles from (almost) Strasbourg in the north to (almost) Mulhouse in the south. The land is known for single grape wine: riesling, the pinots (blanc, gris and noir), gewurztraminer, sylvaner, chasselas, muscat and auxerrois, but in the late 19th century there had been about 150 kinds of grapes, and all muddled together in the field.
