The Wine Recommendations

Yannick Amirault
2010 Le Grand Clos
Where | Bourgueil, Loire Valley, France |
Grape | Cabernet Franc |
Ag | Organic |
SO2 | Middling |
Price | $32 |
Note to self: buy more Amirault and lay down. I’m struck by its age worthiness, knit and powdery tannin. The grapes are farmed from three different soil types. There has been a slight increase in SO2 addition as the domaine feels they were too low in the past. Stash this away for twenty years.

Ca’Nova
2011 Nebbiolo
Where | Langhe, Piemonte, Italy |
Grape | Nebbiolo |
Ag | Organic |
SO2 | Conventional organic |
Price | $25 |
I visited this property back in 2002, at that time it was one of the few organic properties in Barbaresco. The family is old-fashioned and that’s the way the wines are made as well. Here’s a nebbiolo with a touch of cumin seed and raspberry coated licorice.
