Following the Scent: A fateful meeting in the Veneto with Alberto Buratti
Waiting for Diego Sorba to pick me up, on my mind was a bottle shot shown to me the other night. A friend had talked about the wine they had the other night that tasted “like an Auvergne gamay.” Low alcohol and vibrant. I had never heard of that winemaker (or any other, for that matter) from the Colli Euganei, volcanic hills in the region of Padua. This region is known for merlot and cabernet franc and sweet Moscato wines so I paid it no attention. But when I texted it to Diego, who knew about everyone and everything, and asked, “Have you ever had this?”
