A dog came running. A button accordion waited for playing. The baking torta stuffed with cheese and eggplants filled the lakeside air. Trish Nelson, hearing the doors shut, rushed out giggling, joyful. With long drapes of blonde hair under her floppy hat, in the wild dry brush of the 2021 vintage, she looked as if she stepped out of the Australian outback instead of the banks of Lake Bolsena.
